What's that you say??? Brazilians dress like hillbillies??!!??? Well the simple answer is YES, yes they do, once a year!!!
Culture is something that is obviously very important in our multicultural family! In Brazil, a baby's first birthday is a large celebration! We have decided to keep this tradition in our family! Since our sweet Lyvia is now turning one, we decided to celebrate it Brazilian style!
In Brazil the second largest yearly celebration is their "Festa Junina". It is a festival celebrated in the month of June. In the northern part of Brazil it can be even bigger than Brazil's famous Carnaval! It is full of dancing, costumes, color, and fun! To learn more about festa junina click here. We want you to come and celebrate the life of our beautiful Lyvia in true Festa Junina fashion. Make sure to come dressed up so that you don't look silly!
Traditional Festa Junina attire: The best way to describe it is to come dressed as the best darn hillbilly!
Women:
Rosey Cheeks with drawn on freckles, either pigtail braids or pigtails with large ribbon bows, women sometimes use straw hats, peasant style skirts or dresses, lap apron, blacked out teeth, patches, plaid or flowered shirts.....
Men:
drawn on stubble, beards, mustaches, or unibrows, blacked out teeth, plaid shirts, pants with patches, neckercheifs or super short ties, straw hats (if you don't have a straw hat, a straw cowboy hat may work too), uncombed hair......
